Frequently asked questions
A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to a birthing person (and their partner/family) before, during, and shortly after childbirth.
A midwife is a medical provider who can perform clinical tasks like checking fetal heart tones, delivering babies, and monitoring labor medically. A doula provides non-medical support like emotional reassurance, physical comfort measures, and intuitive guidance.
Studies show that people who hire doulas are more likely to have shorter labors, lower rates of interventions (like C-sections), and more positive birth experiences overall. Doulas offer continuous support that is unique and personalized to your needs.
Not at all. Doulas work alongside your partner, family, and birth team to enhance everyone's role. Many partners appreciate having a doula there to help guide and support them, too.
It’s ideal to hire a doula in the second trimester so you have time to build a relationship and plan for your birth, but you can hire a doula at any stage of pregnancy, even in the final weeks.
